Full school meals are cooked and served in the hall, or the caterer can provide a packed lunch. Children are encouraged to eat the main course. If your child has particular aversions (not general) please let us know. We have facilities for packed lunches which are also taken in the main hall. Please send packed lunches in unbreakable containers and drinks in plastic beakers or a bottle with a straw. Cans and fizzy drinks should not be brought as they tend to 'explode' in the hall. Chocolate covered items are also discouraged and should be saved for home! We encourage healthy eating and supply fruit to the younger children and we hope that parents will support this by providing a healthy packed lunch. Please do not supply nuts as part of this lunch as some children have a nut allergy.
The Government has announced that from September 2014 every child in Rainbow, Willow and Lime will be entitled to a free school meal regardless of their family circumstances.
Main meals for children in KS2 (Maple, Cherry, Birch and Oak) should be paid for weekly in advance on a Monday morning (current cost can be supplied by the office). Dinner money should be sent in a sealed NAMED envelope and cheques should be made payable to Chartwells. To ease administration, parents are asked to be consistent throughout the term, ensuring their child has school dinner on the same day each week.
Families on low income may be able to apply for free school meals for their child, if you think your children are entitled to free school meals, please ask the school office for an application form.
On 11th March 2014, our kitchen underwent an inspection by Medway Council.
We are very proud to announce that we have been awarded a Food Standards Agency 5 star rating.
